This picture is entitled Douchy les Ayette and appears to be the remains of a memorial, which I presume once stood in the German cemetery in the village. The village, about 13 kilometres south of Arras, was in German hands from October, 1914 to 21 March, 1917 and briefly again in March 1918. The cemetery which once held 380 graves is long gone. I understand that the legend says: He who dies in holy struggle, lies as if in his Fatherland. https://wfadublin.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=180678401 180678401 Bailleul https://wfadublin.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=180680401 180680401 German Soldiers Grave https://wfadublin.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=180680404 180680404 German Tank at Rhiems https://wfadublin.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=180680405 180680405 Iron Harvest https://wfadublin.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=180680407 180680407 Mons https://wfadublin.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=180689564 180689564 Pill Box at Beurains https://wfadublin.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=180689565 180689565 Unknown https://wfadublin.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=180689566 180689566 Unknown https://wfadublin.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=180689567 180689567 Unknown https://wfadublin.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=180689616 180689616 Unknown https://wfadublin.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=180689617 180689617
